What are Todd County Public Records?

Data that are used for the administration of a licensing exam, or academic exam, of which would undermine the honesty of the examination process if disclosed.
  • Health data are considered nonpublic data. That is any data on individuals related to the description, identification, control, and prevention of disease. Such information, when collected, created, maintained, or received, by a political subdivision, department of health, or state systems, is considered nonpublic data.
  • Data on sexual assault data are classified as private data.
  • All data created by or maintained by the Department of Management and Budget.
  • Social Security numbers.
  • Weapons permit data is considered private.
  • Records from financial institutions are considered private data.
  • Accident reports are considered private data.
  • Highway construction projects data.
  • Police techniques are considered private.

In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. Users are able to search third-party websites remotely for multiple records at a time with just the name of the record subject and their last known location, including the city, county or state. Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.

Are Todd County Criminal Records Public?

Yes, In Minnesota, criminal records are considered public information according to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. Hence, criminal records and information pertaining to arrests are made accessible to the general public. However, this typically excludes sealed juvenile records or certain criminal charges sealed by court order.

Record seekers use the online criminal record search database for information on individuals convicted within the state of Minnesota. They can do this by entering the name and date of birth of the individual and click on the search button to run the search.

Record seekers can also visit the BCA (Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension) and check for names and records free of charge at the public terminal which can be found in the lobby. To obtain full criminal history a payment of $15 must be brought along by the requestor along with an informed consent form that is notarized and signed by the subject of the record and a large, self addressed manilla envelope. In person requests can be collected after three working days or sent to the requestor via mail using the addressed envelope.

A request to obtain copies of criminal records can also be sent via mail to the BCA. This request must include an informed consent form that is notarized and signed by the subject of the record as well as a self-addressed stamped envelope. Payment of $15 ($8 for charitable nonprofit organizations) must also be enclosed in the mail and can be in the form of a personal or business check, money order, or a cashier’s check. A response can be expected within two weeks after the request has been made.

All requests must include a correct spelling of the full name of the subject and subject date of birth.

Todd County Court Records

The District Court is the only court in operation within Todd County. The court has jurisdiction in all family, criminal, civil, probate, juvenile, and traffic cases filed within the County. The court can be accessed from Mon-Fri between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m or contacted by email via the Minnesota Judicial branch.
