Requests should include the correctly-spelled full name and date of birth of the requestor, as well as other names used, including maiden and former married names, and the purpose of the request. Written requests must also be signed, dated, and notarized by a notary public and should be mailed along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope and appropriate payment in the form of a personal check, money order, cashier’s check, certified or business check made payable to the “BCA”.

In-person requests from the bureau can also be made between the hours of 8:15 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., from Mondays to Fridays. Requestors may view these records in person free of charge; however, obtaining copies will cost a fee of $8 per copy.

Requests for private and public criminal history records on other individuals can also be made to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension either in person or via mail. It should be noted that the state of Minnesota considers arrest information, juvenile records, court information, and convictions more than 15 years old private, and therefore restricts access to them.

Parties who wish to access private and public criminal history records on other individuals will be required to provide an informed consent form signed by the subject named on the required record, authorizing the release of the record. Members of the public that wish to obtain information on sex offenders residing in Itasca County may do so through the Public Registrant Search website provided by the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Interested parties can perform searches on registered sex offenders in the state by a number of categories which include name, county, and zip code.
